This year’s U.S. midterms have the potential to be more impactful than a typical non-presidential election season given shifts in campaign finance laws and expected balance of power in Washington. Campaign rhetoric is ramping quickly, propelled by the rising influence of well-funded special interest groups and mid-census redistricting drama. Debates rage about AI regulation, data center location and election integrity. Agita over high prices, stagnating wages and a fragile jobs outlook is likely to motivate (or dissuade) voters in deciding whether or how to vote. Mixing politics and portfolios is a fraught undertaking in the best of times – and one we typically steer clients well away from. Still, there are issues at play that have the capacity to reach across Main Street AND Wall Street.
